F.A.Q.

WHAT ARE MERIT POINTS?  Merit points are given for every activity including meetings, investiture, induction, fair, outreach activities, campouts, and Pathfinder Sabbath. (10 points each)

WHAT ARE THE POINTS FOR?  Those with 70% or more of the total possible points for each half of the year will be eligible to participate in our Merit Point Ski Trip in January and the Kings Dominion Trip in June.  Those with 90% or more are eligible for "Pathfinder of the Year" for Vienna Stars and Potomac Conference.

HOW DO I GET 100%?  Being on time for meetings, wearing designated uniform, excellent behavior, bringing notebook to meetings and coming to each and every activity.

WHAT IS A CLASS "A", CLASS "B", AND CLASS "C" UNIFORM?

Class A is Khaki uniform shirt with pleated black slacks, black belt with Pathfinder buckle, black shoes, and black socks.  No black jeans allowed.

Class B is Conference T-shirt (Navy with red/white/blue Indian Head emblem).

Class C is Vienna Stars T-shirt (Light blue with jeans).

HOW DO I GET THE UNIFORM NEEDED?  Class A shirt and belt and patches can be ordered through Advent Source at 1-800-328-0525 or a pre-paid order can be placed with Celeste Desmukes.  Vienna Stars and Conference T-shirts can be purchased through Celeste also.

WHAT IS "AY"?  AY stands for "Adventist Youth".  This program prepares the youth spiritually, mentally, and physically.  It consists of 7 levels:  Friends (10 years old), Companion (11 years old), Explorers (12 years old), Rangers (13 years old), Voyagers (14 years old), Guide (15 years old), and Master Guide (16+ years old).

HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD?  A handout will be given to your child for the AY Class Requirements.  Please encourage your child to read the material and memorize the required Bible verses.

HOW CAN I HELP OR GET INVOLVED WITH VIENNA STARS?  We're always looking for parents to help with transportation, teaching honor classes, helping out at our Fair, or by sharing any other talent that you may have.

WHAT ARE INDUCTION AND INVESTITURE?  Induction is when we induct the new Pathfinders into the club.  It is a beautiful candle light service held on a Sabbath afternoon in the fall.  Investiture is a graduation service from AY classes.  This too is a beautiful service when our Pathfinders get their honor patches earned as well as AY patches.  This service is held in the spring.

HOW DO I KNOW ALL THAT IS GOING ON?  Everyone receives a calendar at registration.  There will also be a newsletter given out at every meeting with events to come soon.  Please ask or look for it.  It is full with details of all the activities in our calendar as well as any changes.

WHAT ARE THE "PATHFINDER ACTIVITIES"?  This year each unit will be taking turns visiting an area senior living center twice a year.  We also have outreach programs and community service events.  Field trips to help meet some requirements for AY or honor classes may be scheduled.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?  Please feel free to contact your child's counselor, the Deputy Directors or the Director.  A list of all counselors/staff with phone numbers will be provided to each child/parent.
