ROCKS AND MINERALS HONOR: The Oregon Conference is teaching the Rocks and Minerals Honor at the Camporee. We need about 12 clubs to bring rocks. We will need about 1000 rocks of each type that are 1-2. Rocks should be unique to their state or country. Clubs who bring rocks will get first priority on getting a unique collection. At the 1999 DTP Camporee, clubs brought marble from Colorado, garnets from Idaho, granite from Vermont, pink Quartz from New Mexico and caymanite from Grand Cayman. Please do not bring rocks without contacting: Rod Bardell, Pathfinder Coordinator, 38887 Mt. Home Dr., Lebanon, OR 97355 or rodanntreesrus@iinet.com. Send a postcard with your name, club, address, email, or phone and rock type.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORD: We will be attempting TWO world records and YOUR help is needed for both:
1. Largest Game of Leap Frog
On September 19, 2003, 849 people set a world record by playing the largest game of leap frog for 5 minutes in Derbyshire, UK.
On Thursday morning, August 12, we will attempt to break this record. Because it is harder to jump taller people, this event will be open only to Junior Pathfinders but staff and teens are urgently needed to cheer us on and watch history being made!
2. Most Teeth Brushed
Coincidentally, the very next day, on September 20, 2003, 10,240 students broke a world record by simultaneously brushing their teeth for 60 seconds in Guandong, China.
On Thursday evening, August 12, just before the evening program, everyone is invited to join us as we attempt to break this record.
Watch for more details and the specific rules for these two exciting events, to be posted soon at www.camporee.org
Note: We believe that the records set are accurate as of the date of this publication but could possibly be broken before our event. Source: Guinness Book of World Records.
SCRAPBOOKING HONOR: Sports! Music! Pets! Friends! Bring 25-50 pictures of you, your friends, and your family doing fun stuff and have more fun making a scrapbook. More info: Betty Scherencel (616) 837-8973 after 5:30 pm Eastern Time or 5875 Beaver Creek Dr., Coopersville, MI 49404.
OPTIONAL EXCURSION DAY TRIPS: These trips are organized as a service for the FOF Camporee, but are not sponsored by the FOF Camporee. An extra fee applies for each activity. These trips will leave from the FOF Camporee Campus on a regular basis throughout the day. An independent travel agency organizes these trips. All questions and registration issues related to these extra trips should be directed to that organization. More info: www.camporee.org/html/daytime_offsite_activities.htm#3
